Fall is a truly remarkable time of year here at YMCA of the Rockies. With the leaves changing colors, the elk in rut (mating season) and the overall serenity, the sights and sounds of this time of year provide something for everyone looking to get take a midweek getaway.
On top of the many events and festivals celebrating the autumn season being offered by YMCA of the Rockies this season, the following programs will be offered and specifically catered towards active older adults looking for some time in the mountains during the middle of the week:
Rocky Mountain National Park in the Fall: September 18-20 (Register Now!)
Visit the Estes Park Center during one of the most spectacular times of year! Golden aspens, rutting elk and the first traces of snow on the mountain tops! Our knowledgeable hikemasters will lead interpretative hikes into the national park with a “focus” on nature photography. Evening sessions will be offered to learn more about the flora & fauna of the park as well as photographic techniques. We are honored to be working with YMCA staff member and one of Colorado’s top nature photographers, Scott Pope to offer unique basic and advanced photography excursions into the Rocky Mountains. This unique weekend also offers options of archery, relaxed group gatherings around the campfire and plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the views!
Rocky Mountain Adventure: September 25 – 27 (Register Now!)
Challenge your adventurous side in our Rocky Mountain playground! Learn basic rock-climbing techniques and scale our indoor climbing wall. Take a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park with our knowledgeable hikemasters. Learn the basics of route orienteering in a easy-to-learn environment. All activities will be led by our trained Adventure Activities Staff and will be geared to the ability levels of our participants. Other activities this weekend include disc golf on the front 9, archery, star gazing, and a group campfire. There will also be ample time for you to relax, renew and enjoy the views of the Continental Divide.
We also encourage guests to extend their stay at the YMCA and take in the Town Of Estes Park’s annual Elkfest. Elkfest runs the weekend of September 29-30 and the free festival features bugling contests, elk exhibits, the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, elk seminars, elk-inspired arts and crafts, Native American music, dancing and storytelling, a childrens’ area with elk-themed activities and a craft beer garden.
At ElkFest, vendors will display artwork, handmade elk-ivory jewelry, and will offer distinctive elk cuisine. Mountain men from around the country will gather at the Mountain Man Rendezvous to sell their wares and demonstrate their skills.

Package pricing includes special programming, two nights (minimum) lodge room and all meals in the Aspen Dining Hall.
