5 Questions with Adam’s Camp Director Jordan Ficke

Now partnered with the YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch for over 30 years, Adam’s Camp serves individuals and families with developmental disabilities. With two sides to their program, Adam’s Camp focuses on adventure and therapy. The adventure program consists of a five-day, five-night independent sleep-away camp, where participants are provided with the typical camp experience. With the overnight sleep-away camp, program director Jordan Ficke says individuals gain valuable socialization skills and also build independence. The other program offered by Adam’s Camp is the therapy program—a multi-disciplinary intensive therapy approach where each camper works one-on-one with a physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and an art and music therapist. Therapy campers stay at Snow Mountain Ranch for the whole week while receiving care, and their families are taken care of as well. Siblings of individuals participating in Adam’s Camp get the opportunity to take part in Siblings Camp where they can enjoy activities while the parents get much needed and deserved rest.

What has the Y done or changed for Adam’s Camp?

“This is actually our 32nd year coming to Snow Mountain Ranch, and the YMCA of the Rockies has been so good to Adam’s Camp. Everyone at the Y is so welcoming and so understanding of our groups and our needs.”

What is your favorite YMCA of the Rockies memory?

“Seeing kids complete the zip line. It’s one of our favorite things we do here at Snow Mountain Ranch. When a camper completes the zip line, especially for the first time, the look on their face is just heartwarming. It’s awesome to see.”

One word to describe YMCA of the Rockies?

“Helpful. “Whether it’s checking-in all of our families or staff, providing a safe environment for activities or setting up a DVD player, the YMCA of the Rockies is helpful through and through,”.

What was your first Y experience?

“My first Y experience was here with Adam’s Camp. From the beginning, it was so great to see how well both organizations worked together to give our camper’s and their families a memorable experience.”

Why the Y?

“We love coming to the YMCA of the Rockies each summer because of the setting and all the activities provided. From the zip line to the tubing hill and everything in between, the YMCA provides us with great experiences in the most beautiful settings.”
