YMCA of the Rockies Partners with REI #OptOutside

Will you go out with us?
You may remember when REI did something different on Black Friday last year—they closed the co-op’s doors and
invited the nation to opt outside with them. And more than a million people did just that. It really caught the

attention of our community. This year on Black Friday, YMCA of the Rockies is joining REI outside, and we’d like you to opt outside with us. Let’s skip the malls and celebrate life outdoors.

Here are the top five ways you can #OptOutside on Black Friday at YMCA of the Rockies:dsc_8878_482x720_72_rgb

1. Hike to Bible Point:

This kid-friendly hike is perfect for those looking for a quick day hike with just enough challenge to build self confidence and endurance for little hikers. Stop by the Sweet Memorial Program Building for directions to the trailhead and learn a bit of history about the hike before you set out!074

2.  Participate in special Thanksgiving Activities:

This Thanksgiving there is plenty of extra special programming available for families including campfire s’mores, flag football, field games, family kickball and our famous Turkey Trot 5K! See all the Thanksgiving program in our Fall Activity Guide (pg. 12).

3. Have a picnic at Dorsey Pond:

The weather has been beautiful lately and the snow hasn’t made an appearance yet, so grab sandwiches and snacks from the Rustic Cafe and hike down to Dorsey Pond, where you can spread out on the benches for an al fresco lunch with peaceful views.

4.  Bring Fido Along:

Don’t forget, our cabins at YMCA of the Rockies are pet friendly! Feel free to being your four legged friend on all of the on-grounds hiking trails at the YMCA.

5.  Inspire the Next Generation:
Try out one of our toddler friendly programs geared towards allowing young children time to experience the outdoors with their family. Enjoy the Little Explorers class, where your family joins one of our hiking instructors on a short nature walk through the woods. Children will have the opportunity to explore their surroundings and may get a little dirty! Other programs include Bugs, Bugs, Bugs, Hands on Nature and Movement!
