My experience at YMCA of the Rockies

“The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.”
― Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

samay7-2 My name is Samay Molina. I’m 23 years old, and from Puebla City in Mexico.

I graduated in Communication and Multimedia at Universidad Madero in Puebla City, and I’m an international trainee in Guest Services and Marketing at YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center in Colorado.

Working and living in a different country where everyone speaks a different language than yours and being away from your family and friends isn’t easy, but it’s totally worth it!

It has always been my dream to study and work abroad since I was a kid. That’s why I decided to go for an internship in the U.S. after finishing my studies at the University I wanted to get more knowledge of Marketing in the hospitality industry, and to practice and improve my English skills.

When YMCA of the Rockies and the training plan that it offers was shown to me, I felt convinced that it was what I wanted to do for the next year of my life.

This organization gives trainees the opportunity to know how it is to run a business and really understand how the hospitality industry works in the U.S. I have learned how to perform many activities in Guest Services, training, and other departments such as Group Sales, the Central Reservation Office, Marketing, Events Coordination and more.

One of the things that I most like about being an international trainee is that I am always meeting and working with people from all over the world and the U.S. This allows me to learn how to communicate effectively with people in all levels, from managers, to staff and guests.

A place like this, surrounded by nature and wildlife, offers the most beautiful views in all seasons, as well as opportunities to do unique activities. Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park is my favorite activity to do here. To come and visit YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park is something that you definitely have to do!

This experience has taught me to be grateful for these opportunities, and encouraged both others and me to keep pursuing our dreams and keep dreaming big!
