The TREK program at Snow Mountain Ranch is a unique gap year program for young adults between high school and college. Many young people struggle with “the big questions” about life and may not be quite ready to jump into vocational training or college classes. The TREK program provides participants with eight months of greater self-awareness, faith development, character development, direction and support.
How Does It Work? Participants will come together in weekly small group meetings, guided by a trained facilitator that encourages accountable, safe relationships, thoughtful reflection, honest conversation, and prayer. In addition participants will meet weekly as a large group. Participants are also expected to study and reflect on the content of the material, and the Bible. Spiritual disciplines will also be learned and practiced. Retreats and special activities will also be part of their eight month experience. Lastly, participants will have a cross cultural experience as they relate to other staff from all over the world. TREK runs from September through April each year. During this eight month period participants will work through material entitled “The Emerging Journey.”
What Distinguishes the Snow Mountain Ranch TREK program From Other Gap Year Programs? 1) The Cost. Not only is the enrollment fee lower than most, you actually have the opportunity to earn your enrollment fee back, and put money away in savings, because during your eight month program you will be working 40 hours per week for Snow Mountain Ranch in a variety of mission driven jobs. As a result of your work you will receive room, board, and an hourly wage. 2) The location. Snow Mountain Ranch is located at 9,000 feet above sea level in the Colorado Mountains near Winter Park, Granby, Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The location offers opportunity for year-round recreation and beauty second to none.
What Can Participants Expect to Gain? The development of a biblical foundation for life and leadership, the development of a personal foundation for life, the development of a relational foundation for life, and the development of a practical foundation for life. Participants will also have gainful employment for eight months, lifelong friendships, and mountain recreation.
