So you’ve brought your family out to the YMCA of the Rockies for an awesome vacation. You’ve made the trip, you’ve checked in, you unpacked – now what? With so much to do at the here, it may be hard to choose! Luckily, your friends at the Sweet Memorial can help.
Sweet Memorial is the Program Building here at the YMCA of the Rockies and the place to go if you’re looking to sign up for activities, find a hike to go on, or rent equipment. From kickball, basketball, and soccer, to parachute games, survival classes, aquatic exploration, and more, there’s sure to be an activity for everyone in the family.
Abby Krstulic, a Hospitality Management major at Kansas State University, is working her first summer at Sweet Memorial and loves teaching the activity classes.
“It’s so fun being outside and teaching a lot of different classes,” Abby said. My favorite to teach is kickball and archery because you get to watch the kids improve so much and have a blast. I also love the Bubbles and Chalk class because it’s so relaxed and the kids love it.”
Kristina Carter, a staff member spending her third summer her at the YMCA of the Rockies enjoys helping guests decide what to do.
“I really like being able to guide people in deciding great places to go into the park and figure out what activities they should do with their family while they are here,” Kristina said. “I also love teaching classes that excite kids, like the Aquatic Exploration class. It completely opens a new door for them and they love getting to test the pH levels of the water, study bugs, and do fun scientific things.”
Guests staying at YMCA of the Rockies will receive a Stay Pass, which is included in the price of their lodging. If you’re not staying on-grounds or are not a member of the Y, you must purchase a wristband Day Pass to participate in activities. The Day Pass can be purchased at the Sweet Memorial Program Building or the Administration Building for $20/adult and $10/child.
“The wonderful people I get to work with in Sweet Memorial are my favorite part,” Tony Nobles said. “The young people here are sharp and smart and fun to work with. The weather every day is so nice and the scenery is magnificent, as well. It makes being a staff member so enjoyable.”
“We really love helping people,” Kirstin Terry said. “If I can make someone’s stay in any way better or answer questions they have, I’m more than happy to do it.”
