The mission of the YMCA of the Rockies states that we are here “for all.” One way that we live up to this mission is through the hiring of international staff at both Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch. International staff members work through one of three J1 visa options: J1 Work/Travel, J1 Camp Counselor or J1 Trainee/Intern.
The Work/Travel program is specifically for students. Participants work in either food service or housekeeping during their university break. Positions are available for all seasons, but the maximum duration of the visa is 120 days.
The Camp Counselor program allows participants, both students and non-students, to work as Day Camp counselors, lifeguards or Craft and Design Center instructors. The maximum duration of the Camp Counselor visa is 120 days.
The J1 Trainee/Intern program allows both students and non-students to train in areas related to their previous education and experience. Participants arrive in the spring to train in Guest Services, Food Service, Human Resources, Information Technology, Recreation and Programs Operations, Arts and Culture, and Facilities Management. Participants receive both on-the-job training and formal classroom training. This visa has a maximum duration of 18 months, but is usually approved for 12 months.
Once participants have completed any one of the three programs, they are given the opportunity to travel throughout the United States for 30 days.
