Join the YMCA of the Rockies for our annual 4th of July Parade! Staff and guests celebrate Red, White, and Blue through the creation of floats and costumes on Monday, July 4, 2016. The parade runs through the Administration parking lot and promenade, ending at Hyde Chapel. After the parade, head to the Administration Field for field games and competitions! Later in the evening, get to the town of Estes Park early for the fireworks show over Lake Estes. Guests can either drive to town or take the shuttle (Brown Route, picks up at Hemple Auditorium). As of this summer, there is a new addition to the Mootz Family Craft and Design Center at the Estes Park Center, a glass fusing section! Use colored glass to make bowls, wind chimes, plates, spoon rests, jewelry, and more! Teaching a basic introduction to glass fusing is Jo Lorimor, a professional artist. Lorimer spent the last 12 years teaching fused glass classes in La Penita, Mexico. This is her first time to the YMCA and we are glad to have her. Guests can assemble precut glass on their project, which is then fired in a kiln overnight. Different temperatures are used to fire the glass, ranging from 1380 to …

The world’s most recognizable face of survival and outdoor adventure is bringing the ultimate class in self-rescue skills to Snow Mountain Ranch again this summer! This is a rare opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to learn Bear’s extreme survival techniques through “the most challenging but empowering survival courses on the planet.” Participants will learn improvised wilderness first aid, emergency shelter builds, harsh terrain navigation by day and night without a map or compass, rope skills for crossing difficult terrain, survival knife skills, fire lighting, foraging for food by setting snares and traps, and dynamic self rescue techniques in this intense, 24 hour course.
